Why the Thai cave rescue is so tricky

Officials said Sunday it may "take days" to bring the entire group to the surface.

"Experts' assessments indicate that today is the most ready we can be", Choorat Panngao, Provincial Police Region 5 deputy commander said.

Four of the boys were safely rescued on Sunday after rescuers carried out a risky operation, amid fears the waters will rise again to a unsafe level.

Rescue mission chief Narongsak Osotthanakorn on Monday said the operation on the second day started at 11am.

4 boys were brought out safely from the cave, but the mission was paused to replace the air tanks.

Thai officials have been tight-lipped about the rescue operation, and would not comment on how many people were removed Monday.

Somboon Sompiangjai, 38, the father of one of the trapped boys, said parents were told by rescuers ahead of Sunday's operation the "strongest children" would be brought out first.

Cave rescue experts have said they consider an underwater escape to be a last resort, especially with people untrained in diving.

Domagoj Vida then headed Zlatko Dalic's side in front in extra-time, only for Mario Fernandes to make it 2-2 in the 115th minute. Belgium has Romelu Lukaku leading the line, with Kevin De Bruyne, Marouane Fellaini, and Eden Hazard playing behind the striker.

Narongsak, who is heading the operation, said earlier Sunday that 13 foreign and five Thai divers were taking part in the rescue, and two divers were to accompany each of the boys, all of whom have been learning to dive only since Monday, when the first searchers found them. A family member told CNN Monday that they hadn't been told which boys had been pulled out, and who is still trapped in the cave.

Thais have been fixated on the crisis, hoping desperately for the safe return of the 12 boys and their 25-year-old football coach, after they ventured into the Tham Luang cave complex after practice and became trapped by rising waters more than a fortnight ago. After Monday's rescue effort, four boys and their coach were still inside the labyrinth cave.

A dive expert now helping at the scene of the trapped soccer team in Thailand has given an insight into the conditions rescuers are fighting against to help the trapped boys. The Associated Press reports that four ambulances were seen leaving the area near the cave entrance on Monday, with patients taken to waiting helicopters.

Officials said it had not changed the water level in the cave but forecasters have warned rain could continue to hit the area throughout the week.

The journey out of the cave from the chamber the boys and their coach have been trapped takes even experienced Navy SEAL divers as long as five or six hours to complete. A former Thai navy SEAL passed out while making the dive Friday and died. Last week, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk offered his support by promising to have a "kid-size submarine" built - and he came through with the help of engineers in his employ.

None of the boys' identities have not yet been publicly revealed. The race to save their lives before the monsoon rains hit have since become an global effort!

The team of 12 boys and their coach entered the cave system on June 23, but torrential rain caused the water level within the cave to rise rapidly, forcing them to venture deeper.
