Samsung’s texting app apparently sent pictures to people’s contacts without permission

One small example of that is a new Samsung phone bug that texts the user's photographs to random people in their contacts lists without them knowing it.

Business Insider writes that the highly problematic bug is exclusive to the company's most recent phones, meaning the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus. The lack of any evidence on the affected phone may be the scariest part - this could be happening much more than we think because the recipient is someone the involuntary sender doesn't speak to often. According to the The Verge, Samsung is asking users to call the company's helpline if they are facing the problem. These text messages also included photos stored in their respective devices, reports Gizmodo. There was a record of the message in that person's phone carrier logs, but not within the app.

Drunk dialing and butt-dialing are bad enough, but what if your phone sent some. compromising photos to your contacts all by itself?

A comment on that post by another user said his wife's phone did the same thing as did his own phone.

Russia Defeats Spain in Shootout at World Cup
Akinfeev used his trailing left foot to kick the ball high away from the goal on Spain's last attempt by Aspas. Though Spain completed a World Cup game record of 1,029 passes, it rarely threatened Akinfeev's goal.

"We are aware of the reports regarding this matter and our technical teams are looking into it", a Samsung spokesman told us.

In the meantime, users can switch to another text messaging app, such as Google's Android Messages, or disable access to phone storage for the Samsung Messages app. Errors included scheduled text messages ending up in the wrong threads. The user pointed out that the issue was do with the Samsung default SMS app being updated from the Galaxy Store.

Affected users are encouraged to contact Samsung directly until a fix is issued. The Samsung Messages app doesn't show any sign of sending the photos, meaning the user is completely unaware of the picture messaging.

Numerous incidents seem to be affecting phones with T-Mobile, a carrier that recently rolled out updates with their RCS "advanced messaging" service.
