With RT, Schultz hosted a half-hour broadcast called "The News With Ed Schultz".

According to WDAY-TV News, he died of natural causes at his home in Washington, DC.

Schultz's political views shifted in 2000, at which point he began identifying as a Democrat. As he became a self-identified "lefty", Schultz appealed to liberals who identified with the plight of the working class and the decline of American trade unions.

Up until his death, Schultz hosted the evening news program "News with Ed Schultz" for RT America.

Schultz is most known for his stint as the host of the Ed Show, which aired on MSNBC from April 2009 to July 2015.

Schultz was a controversial figure at MSNBC.

He is survived by his Wendy Schultz and their six children.
