Trump Receives Letter from Kim Jong Un

North Korea's will for the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula remains "unchanged, consistent and fixed", said leader Kim Jong Un, according to the North's state news agency on Friday. Mr Trump suddenly withdrew from the meeting last week, only to announce a day later that it could still get back on track. The media said you had a meeting and cancelled it.

Trump's announcement comes after top North Korean official Kim Yong Chol visited the White House Friday to deliver the letter.

The contents of Kim's letter to Trump have been the source of speculation since Trump announced the letter's existence Thursday. In the meeting, Lavrov invited Kim Jong Un to visit Russia and meet with the Russian President Vladimir Putin. He was met outside the West Wing by the White House chief of staff, John Kelly, and the head of the CIA Korea department, Andrew Kim, who ushered the 72-year-old regime veteran into the Oval Office to meet Trump and hand over a personal letter. "We're willing to work with them to provide them the security guarantees they feel they need, and in fact, we're willing to go beyond that to help them have greater economic prosperity".

Asked of the prospect of the denuclearisation meeting in Singapore going ahead, Mr Trump sounded hopeful. The ultimate goal is to convince North Korea to denuclearize.

Though the United States is engaged in three separate sets of talks with North Koreans around the globe, it's still unclear whether Trump will actually meet with Kim.

Diplomats in both countries have conducted an intense flurry of negotiations, culminating on Thursday when Pompeo sat down in NY with Kim's number two, Kim Yong Chol.

Kim Yong Chol met with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in New York City yesterday, before traveling to Washington D.C.to meet with the president. The two sides do not expect to side any agreement on June 12, he said.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov meets with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Pyongyang, North Korea in this handout picture released by North Korea's Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on May 31, 2018.

"South Koreans may be eating well and have more material things, but that is only because they are depending on the American imperialists, currying favor with them and getting their leftovers", Ms. Kim said, describing a typical North Korean line.

The U.S. president called off the summit last week, citing Kim's "open hostility".

Despite the upbeat messaging in the United States, Kim Jong Un, in a meeting with Russia's foreign minister on Thursday, complained about the US trying to spread its influence in the region, a comment that may complicate the summit.

The Trump administration needed to issue a waiver for Gen. Kim to travel to NY, after the Obama administration in 2010 placed sanctions on him in his role as head of North Korea's premier intelligence agency, the Reconnaissance General Bureau.
