Samuel Umtiti's buyout clause rises to a staggering €500m

Samuel Umtiti has signed his new Barcelona contract, which includes a release clause of €500million.

Lluis Miguelsanz of Sport previously reported Manchester United were eyeing the defender and his meager €60 million (£52 million) buyout clause.

The extension will see the Frenchman remain at Camp Nou till June 30, 2023, putting an end to Manchester United's hopes of signing him.

"I was asked if I wanted to stay or go to [United] but I didn't want to talk about that, above all because I was with the national team", Umtiti explained at a news conference on Monday.

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu is confident that rival clubs will steer clear of making an approach for Samuel Umtiti due to the size of his release clause.

While precise numbers are not available, at least 700 children have been taken away from their parents in this heartless fashion. There won't be a more humane set of policies coming out of this administration, because they have no interest in being humane.

Umtiti recently fuelled even more speculation linking with the Premier League runners-up by refusing to rule out a move, insisting he would only make a final decision on his future after the World Cup. "So for me to leave, either they throw me out the door or I decide to leave".

It's my home. It's a dream to play here, with the best players at, for me, the best club in the world.

"I am really happy here and I have everyone's confidence, so I couldn't leave".

The France global, who is preparing to represent Les Bleus at the World Cup later this month, penned a new five-year contract extension at Barcelona on Sunday night.
