Maria Sharapova reaches French Open fourth round and will face Serena Williams

“As a fan, I wanted to read the book and I was really excited for it to come out and I was really happy for her.

Not to be outdone, Serena opened the doors to HBO for a four-part mini-series, "Being Serena", focusing on her homelife and return to action after the birth of daughter Olympia.

The 36-year-old American, three times a victor in Paris, has lost just two of their 21 meetings and their last-16 encounter on Monday will be among the most eagerly-anticipated of the whole tournament.

Williams looked rusty during her first two victories in Paris but was much stronger in the third round.

The Williamses dropped the first set and then trailed 5-4 in the second with Klepac and Martinez Sanchez serving for the match.

"But, of course, I came into Europe and Stuttgart with not a great record, not playing great tennis with a lot of injuries, and have been able to turn that around a little bit. So for me, I always get inspired by other women that are doing well".

"It's been a while, and I think a lot has happened in our lives for the both of us in very different ways", said the 31-year-old Sharapova.

"I have cried in the locker room many times after a loss, and that's what I have seen a lot of people do. If she can not manage to win a set in this match then you know it has nothing to do with the physical side".

PARIS If the upcoming French Open showdown between Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova provides any of the sort of animus and back-and-forth they manage to stir up away from the court, look out.

Russia's Maria Sharapova stretches for a shot during her quarter-final match against Serena Williams of the U.S.at the Australian Open tennis tournament at Melbourne Park, Australia, January 26, 2016.

"She's probably a favourite in this match, for sure", Williams said of Monday's 22nd meeting between the pair. "I'm going to go out and enjoy myself, and for once, I have nothing to lose".

Petra Kvitova shared the fate of fellow Czech Pliskova as the former world No. 1 was stunned 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-4) by Estonia's Anett Kontaveit. "I was surprised about that, to be honest", Williams said.

The top-ranked Spaniard is chasing a record-extending 11th title at Roland Garros.

Meanwhile, the men's game witnessed another five-set thriller as Italian No.18 Fabio Fognini overcame the challenge of Britain's Kyle Edmund in a 6-3, 4-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in a match which lasted for well over three hours. The French Open marks only her third competitive appearance since the 2017 Australian Open, which was her last tournament before becoming a mother in September.

Earlier, unseeded Karen Khachanov of Russian Federation has reached the round of 16 for the second consecutive year, eliminating 15th-seeded Lucas Pouille of France 6-3, 7-5, 6-3 in the resumption of a suspended match.

The world No. 38 will face Alexander Zverev in the first match on Court Suzanne Lenglen on Sunday.

In another result, top seed Simona Halep continued her charge towards a third Roland-Garros final when she beat Andrea Petkovic of Germany 7-5, 6-0 on Court 18 and will next face No.16 seed Elise Mertens, who beat Daria Gavrilova 6-3, 6-1.

Kerber will play Caroline Garcia next after the French seventh seed cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Romania's Irina-Camelia Begu.

We're a couple of rounds into the French Open.
