Manchester City to start title defence at Arsenal

'Much has been made of Arsenal's hard start to the season, with the Gunners facing Manchester City and Chelsea in Unai Emery's first two games in charge, but which Premier League side has the toughest start?

Manchester United begin their league campaign at home to Leicester City and face a potentially tricky encounter in their third game when Tottenham Hotspur come to Old Trafford.

There's a midweek clash as we travel to Watford on 4 December before facing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge the following weekend (8 December).

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City are huge favourites to win the league next season after they strolled to the title this year.

Manchester United starts at home to Leicester and plays only one of last season's top six, Tottenham, in its first eight games.

By contrast, only United's first three Champions League games will be followed by a home match in the Premier League, against Wolves, Newcastle and Everton.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is allegedly "angered" by Liverpool's fixture list for the 2018/19 campaign.

The 2016-17 champions open up with a trip to Huddersfield Town and then face Newcastle, Bournemouth, Cardiff and West Ham in quick succession after hosting Arsenal.

The club had hoped to move in to their 62,062-seater stadium in time for the start of the season, but will instead play against the Championship playoff winners on the weekend of Aug 18-19 back at their home for the 2017-18 season.

We have ranked the 20 Premier League sides' first six games of the season in order of difficulty based on last season's finishing positions, with newly-promoted Wolves, Cardiff and Fulham taking 18th, 19th and 20th respectively.

But despite the ease or difficulty of a team's early fixtures, the reality that all the clubs face next season is that City will once again be the side to beat.
