In all, Capitol police arrested at least 575 women for the misdemeanor offense of unlawfully demonstrating in the Capitol.

Under Trump's "zero tolerance" policy, the government has begun prosecuting all migrants caught entering the country without authorization.

The White House has also said the order was not a long-term solution and called for Congress to pass immigration reform. Following Trump's signing of an executive order last week-only after the policy sparked worldwide outrage-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will no longer separate families.

Ms Jayapal and her groups have planned "a massive round of protests" across the country on Saturday.
