Apple promises free repairs for faulty MacBook keyboards

Under this program, if you have a MacBook or MacBook Pro with faulty keyboard, Apple will replace some keys, or if required, the entire keyboard for free.

The online Apple discussion thread shows some users have reported an issue with the "butterfly" keyboard design since past year, with complaints mounting in recent months. The list for India includes, MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015), MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2016), MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, 2017), MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports), MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports), MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports), MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports), MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016), and MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017). Service is free of charge for four years after the first retail sale of the computer.

While the the fix and replacement program covers costs and notes that Apple will fix both single keys as well as whole keyboards when necessary, it doesn't note whether the replacements will be a different, improved design that will prevent the problem from happening again (and again, and again).

Amid Trade War, Donald Trump Says US "Rebuilt" China
The drugstore chain and pharmacy benefits manager said it will start making home deliveries of prescriptions and other items. But Intel shares dropped 3.4 percent to $53.22 on Monday on news of a stock downgrade and investor concerns over tariffs.

Worse, the butterfly keyboard design is endemic unreliable. This ultrathin design allowed Apple to make their laptops thinner than ever, but also seemed to trigger a flood of complaints about faulty keyboards, including one widely read Outline article by Casey Johnston and a song by Jonathan Mann.

The announcement that the "butterfly" keyboards would be repaired follows a federal class-action lawsuit filed against MacBook or Macbook Pro for the defect last month in Northern California. But in the meantime, consumers can at least get keyboards that are having problems repaired at no cost-other than some of their time, of course.

Apple forums are overflowing with reports of Geniuses who have told customers that Apple is "collecting data" on the issue. "Service may involve the replacement of one or more keys or the whole keyboard". Though you might face some charges if your laptop is damaged in some other way to the point that it interferes with keyboard repairs.
