But two of the best hitting teams in baseball may find at least one thing to their liking: the dimensions of London Stadium.

League commissioner Rob Manfred confirmed on Tuesday that the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees will play two regular season games at the London Stadium on June 29 and 30 in 2019.

The center-field fence will be an inviting target, just 385 feet from home plate under the preliminary configuration of stadium, which will accommodate 55,000 spectators. Both will be home games for the Sox.

"They are excited about the chance to meet new fans and showcase the game they love", he said. "So fans can expect intense competition during what will surely be a great few days in London".

London Mayor Sadiq Khan launched the London Series alongside Red Sox owner John W Henry - who also owns Liverpool - and Yankees chief Hal Steinbrenner in London on Tuesday.

The statement added that the two leaders will also discuss the US president's own upcoming summit with the North Korean leader. The site of the meeting has been the subject of intense speculation since Trump agreed to Kim's invitation in March.

The latter first staged a game in the British capital in 2007 and Wembley Stadium hosted one National Football League regular season game a year until 2013.

Yankeees managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner was on hand at Tuesday's news conference along with Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred, Red Sox principal owner John Henry and London mayor Sadiq Khan. This series will surely be the most significant global event to date for Major League ball.

"This is a major coup demonstrating, once again, that London is the sporting capital of the world and I am excited about a new partnership with MLB and the long-term future of this sport in our great city", he said. "I can't wait to hear someone shout "play ball" at London Stadium", he added.

Now, Boston and NY will take their historic rivalry to the iconic Olympic Stadium (now known as London Stadium), which hosted the 2012 Summer Olympics and also is the home to the soccer club West Ham of the Premier League. "That fact, coupled with the nature of the rivalry and our desire to make the most out of the London series, made this the ideal choice for the London outing".
