Suspect injured after armed confrontation with officer at Dixon High School

A gunman has been shot by a police officer after opening fire at a high school.

No students or staff were injured during the incident.

Dallas' actions were markedly different than those of a Florida school resource officer who was criticized for acting too slow in a campus shooting that left 17 dead. Dixon Police Department created the resource officer position in 2000 to help prevent this type of occurrence. They say official confirmation has not been made. His comments were echoed by Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner, who in a statement credited "school resource officer Mark Dallas for his bravery and quick action to immediately diffuse a risky situation". When he got there, he fired shots at the resource officer on duty, hitting him.

The officer, who has been identified on social media as Officer Mark Dallas, will be placed on paid administrative leave as per police policy on shooting incidents. Students and staff were quickly evacuated from the campus.

Soros foundation quits Hungary to escape 'unprecedented' tactics
Central European University in Budapest , another institution that was founded and funded by Soros, remains in a state of limbo. The OSF said the campaign had "invoked anti-Semitic imagery from World War Two", a charge denied by the government.

"A lot of things went right today and many things could have gone wrong", Dixon Mayor Liandro Arellano Jr., told reporters at a news conference outside the school.

A resource officer may have prevented a massacre after a 19-year-old former student allegedly brought a gun inside an IL school and opened fire. Per USA Today, agents from the ATF's Chicago and Rockford, Ill., offices have been sent to Dixon to assist with the investigation. The suspect's injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

'Today, we should all be very thankful to school resource officer Mark Dallas for his bravery and quick action to immediately diffuse a unsafe situation at Dixon High School, ' he said. He is in custody. No one else was injured.

Howell said there is no further threat to the school and police are confident the gunman acted alone.
