Xiaomi Mi 6X debuts with AI dual cameras

Xiaomi has today announced the launch of its latest smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi 6X in China.

The Redmi Note 5 comes in two storage and RAM combinations of 32GB/3GB and 64GB/4GB with a price tag of Rs 9,999 and Rs 11,999, respectively.

The Mi 6X is made for China, but the phone may make it to India with some changes as the successor to the Mi A1. Xiaomi also teased all the colour variants it will launch the Mi 6X in, and a promotional video was leaked as well. Also, the handset will have vertically aligned dual rear cameras and the fingerprint sensor will be positioned on the back as well.

In terms of optics, the Redmi Note 5 is equipped with a 12-megapixel rear camera sensor with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF (Phase Detection Autofocus), EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) and an LED flash.

Xiaomi's Mi A1 was quite a departure from then line-up of Redmi series. The Snapdragon 660 features four Kryo 260 cores clocked at 2.2GHz (based on Cortex-A73) and four Kryo 260 cores clocked at 1.8GHz (based on Cortex-A53). Under the hood, the Xiaomi Mi 6X is powered by Snapdragon 660 processor and it sports a 3010mAh battery.

There are three configurations of the phone: 4GB of RAM paired with 64GB of storage, 6GB of RAM paired with 64GB of storage, and 6GB of RAM paired with 128GB of storage. For additional storage, the Mi 6X features a hybrid SIM slot that can also support a microSD card.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 sale will start at 12 am midnight. Called the MI A1, the phone had stock Android Nougat, instead of the MIUI operating system that was there in its Chinese counterpart.

The back camera is 12MP+20MP with the 12MP sensor donning f/1.75 opening, while the 20MP sensor has a f/1.8 aperture. It's used for achieving better low-light photos, and is also used for Xiaomi's implementation of portrait mode. A 20MP camera (IMX376) handles selfie duties. Xiaomi claims the smartphone comes with AI features on the camera where it can automatically recognise the scene and adjust settings automatically. The AI supposedly learns over time to achieve better detail as well. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 5.0, 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, Wi-Fi Direct, Miracast, IR emitter.

Unlike the completion in the similar price range, Xiaomi Mi 6X has opted for USB type -C port as opposed to Micro USB and has a dual speaker setup at the bottom.
