Stan Lee facing sexual harassment lawsuit

Ms Maria Carballo filed a US$50,000 (S$65,000) civil suit on Monday in Chicago, alleging that the incident arose in April a year ago at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place hotel.

A Chicago masseuse is accusing Marvel legend Stan Lee of sexual misconduct.

According to the lawsuit, she is seeking a judgment "in excess of $50,000, plus an award of punitive damages, and attorneys' fees and costs as permitted under the statute".

Lee, 95, denied the allegations through his attorney Jonathan Freund, who told the Chicago Tribune that his client was shocked by the allegations.

Carballo's complaint says she was working as an independent contractor for Therapy Professionals, which sent her on the assignment to Lee's hotel room. Lee stood up and angrily demanded Carballo keep massaging him, the complaint stated.

Carballo also said that when her employer asked her to perform another massage on Stan Lee, she initially refused, but claimed that he said he was "sorry", so she returned to perform another massage.

Lee's former assistant Mac "Max" Anderson, a convicted felon, organized the therapeutic massage and can also be named within the criticism as a defendant. She says he behaved inappropriately during two massages in 2017.

"He is rich and famous".

Lee's attorney, Tom Lallas, did not immediately respond Monday to a request for comment on the lawsuit. Upon learning of the act, Carballo immediately stopped the session and ordered the producer to get dressed so that she could leave the room.

She claims she asked Lee to turn over "in an attempt to diffuse the situation", but ended the massage at one hour when Lee "began to moan and groan". That's when, she claims, he grabbed her foot and rubbed it against his penis and scrotum.

Because of that, Carballo made a decision to finish the massage early and left the hotel unit. I am still nervous and afraid, but not as much as I was before because I have other people helping me, " Carballo was quoted as saying by the news website.

"Not long thereafter, [Carballo] told her daughter and best friend about what happened but was fearful that, in light of Lee's wealth and status, reporting the incident to the police would hurt her job", the lawsuit states.
