CWG 2018: Manika Batra leads Women Table Tennis team for historic gold

Gold Coast: Indian weightlifters remained a cut above the rest with Punam Yadav (69kg) adding a fifth gold medal and Vikas Thakur (94kg) picking up a bronze in what has been a truly remarkable campaign so far at the Gold Coast.

Canada fought strongly for possession and were impressive in defence against New Zealand throughout the game. Following Davies was Fiji's Apolonia Vaivai, who lifted 216 kg to finish with the bronze medal. I was a little nervous when Sarah went for 128kg in her final lift. Defending champion Steven Kari of Papua New Guinea won a second consecutive CWG title with a total of 370 kg.

Boady Santavy finished second with a combined lift of 369kg. Bhaker became a medal prospect at the Commonwealth Games after she won two gold medals at the ISSF World Cup this year in the women's 10m air pistol and the mixed team pistol event.

It was India's 12th medal at Gold Coast in Australia - seven gold, two silver and three bronze. His lift broke the Commonwealth and the Games record in clean and jerk.

Secret, direct talks underway between US, North Korea
US officials were anxious South Korea may have hyped up Kim's openness to putting a denuclearization plan on the table. While Trump is "looking forward to the summit", the schedule could be late May or even early June, CNN said.

Yadav, a native of Uttar Pradesh, had claimed a silver at last year's Commonwealth Championships, her first event after making the jump from 63kg to 69kg category.

Yadav started slowly, lifting 95 kg in her opening attempt.

"Even in my wildest dream I had not thought that I will beat an Olympic medallist and world number four", Batra said after her shock win over Feng Tianwei. She maintained a neck-to-neck competition with Vaivai, who registered a lift of 97kg to take the lead. In the attempt to lift the weight, the knees may bend and the legs may be split. "I did not want to kept her settle so I changed my rubber after the second game", she added.

For Thakur, the medal was a climbdown from the 2014 edition where he had claimed a silver with a lesser lift of 333kg.
