Bayern Munich confirm Kovac to take over from Heynckes

German giants Bayern Munich yesterday named Eintracht Frankfurt's coach Niko Kovac as their new manager, succeeding Jupp Heynckes at the end of the season. Bayern says the 46-year-old agreed to a three-year contract with the Bundesliga champions starting in July.

The decision, however, in favor of Kovac, marks a turn for success-driven Bayern, who had previously opted for big-name coaches including Champions League winners Heynckes, Louis van Gaal and Pep Guardiola.

"It's disrespectful. We will not talk about it with Bayern now, but we will look for dialogue again in the near future". But Heynckes' long-term assistant and former Fortuna Düsseldorf manager Peter Hermann will remain to support Kovac, who will also be accompanied by his younger brother Robert and Armin Reutershahn, his two Eintracht assistants.

The club's sporting director Fredi Bobic described the Bundesluga champions' conduct as "selfish".

Though that will depend on whether he wants to stick around with new boss Niko Kovac now set to arrive in the summer. With that said, he will be able to play against his old team, as UEFA don't allow clauses that prevent players out on loan to play against their employees, although they're quite common when players are loaned out to league rivals.

The Berlin-born coach said a dream is coming true for him in getting the chance to work with a club like Bayern.
