Walmart to expand meal-kit service

Walmart developed its recipes at its culinary and innovation center that was opened about 2 years ago hence all its kits shall be made and packaged at their stores on a daily basis.

While companies like Blue April and Amazon have their own meal kits, Walmart doesn't want to just sit around and sell third-party meal kits.

The pre-portioned kits include all necessary ingredients, already measured and pre-cut for meals such as basil garlic chicken and steak Dijon.

Being one of the retail giants, Walmart's grocery business has been foreseen to affect the sales at the various restaurant chains around if the customers would opt to grab quick and cheaper dinner from the retailer. Thai Curry Chicken and Chicken Fried Rice dishes are in the rotisserie chicken lineup.

Prices of the prepared meals will range from $8 to $10, and varieties include pot roast with mashed potatoes and chicken enchiladas.

Andhra Pradesh Roiled by Anger Over Denial of Special Category Status
Naidu has blamed the Centre of not fulfiling the promises made to Andhra Pradesh under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act. TDP leaders have been vociferous over the special category status issue since Jaitley presented the Budget on February 1.

"We've looked at these meal solutions before, but we haven't been happy with the quality that's been in the marketplace", said Tyler Lehr, Walmart senior vice president and general merchandise manager of deli services.

"It's a market that is consistent with growing food consumer preferences for fresh and healthy foods that require minimal preparation", Shea said in an email.

The meal kits also take a shot at meal kit providers such as Blue Apron and HelloFresh, which do not have brick-and-mortar partners to help alleviate the cost and complex delivery process associated with the meal kit segment.

Walmart, the biggest grocer in the United States, is expanding its meal-kit business.

The company says their kits are callable right now in 250 stores. Livingston doubts Walmart's meal-kit offerings will have a significant impact, questioning whether the retailer can "pull this off properly".
