Samsung Galaxy Note9 reportedly not coming with in-display fingerprint scanner

Samsung Galaxy Note9 reportedly not coming with in-display fingerprint scanner

A recently unveiled concept phone from Chinese company Vivo got us all excited that we're finally getting phones with a fingerprint scanner built into the screen. As such, it's "likely" that Samsung will abandon efforts to bring in-display scanning to this year's anticipated Galaxy Note 9 smartphone.

However, according to sources with knowledge of the supply chain, via The Bell, the Note 9's fingerprint scanner will be in the same place as that on the Note 8, with Samsung still said to be developing an in-screen solution.

"According to our understanding of the technologies, under-display fingerprint solutions may now have many technical issues (e.g. screen protectors and different environments affecting recognition rates and power-consumption)", report quotes Kuo from one of the notes to investors. The only phone maker that has actually brought a smartphone with an under-the-display fingerprint scanner to market is Vivo, but its X20 Plus is now only available in China.

An unnamed Microsoft representative told Trusted Reviews on March 9 that there's a "Microsoft Edition" of the Galaxy S9 available in the United States.

In-display fingerprint scanners are quite new.

March Madness reveal gets a shake-up
The show will be aired on TBS for the first time since CBS and Turner Sports began partnering on NCAA Tournament coverage in 2011. Creighton is likely in the tournament even if it loses to Providence, but the Friars don't have that margin for error.

According to a new note from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via MacRumors), Samsung is not expected to have their under display fingerprint technology ready for the launch of this year's Galaxy Note 9. As of now, the Galaxy S8 has received more than RM600 off its original price since its launch 10 months ago, therefore if you aren't in a rush for a new smartphone, you might want to wait for just that.

The report further adds that the researcher's claim that under-display fingerprint sensors will cost 4 to 6 times higher than the capacitive fingerprint recognition modules.

According to analysers, nearly all the Android smartphone makers would love to improve their Face Scanning feature instead of adding the in-display Fingerprint Scanner which unnecessarily increases the pricing of the product.

With respect to this, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 9 smartphone will come with a Physical Fingerprint Scanner on-board and not the in-display Fingerprint Scanner.
