Pentagon memo provides details on Trump's military parade: No tanks

The Pentagon says a military parade requested by President Trump will take place in Washington on Veterans Day to honor those who have served in the military from the Revolutionary War through today.

In a memo, it said tanks would not be involved to help limit damage to roads.

Several weeks after President Trump announced his desire for a military parade in the style of France (or, less charitably, various despotic regimes), plans for the event are coming into focus.

And at the conclusion of the parade woukd be "a heavy air component" that, if possible, incorporates older aircraft, according to the outline.

"Consideration must be given to minimise damage to local infrastructure", the memo notes, adding that there will be "wheeled vehicles only".

Critics have argued that a parade could cost millions of dollars at a time when the Pentagon wants more stable funding for an over-stretched military. The last time the U.S. saw such a parade was in the year 1991, when Saddam Hussein's Iraqi forces were thrown out of Kuwait in the Gulf War. And formations donning "period uniforms" may be utilized to "represent veterans from previous wars", the letter said.

Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday
While the rest of the country prepares for Daylight Saving Time on March 11th, Florida is willing to stay there all year round. Prior to 2007, we used to change the clocks the first Sunday in April and the last Sunday in October.

The letter, dated Thursday and addressed to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, gives guidance for planning "a military-themed Veteran's Day Parade" in Washington on November 11.

Inspiration for a military parade in Washington, D.C.

Since taking office, Trump has frequently touted his support for the U.S. military and placed high-ranking generals in top White House and cabinet posts.

United States military parades are usually only used to mark victory at the end of a war.

But it won't resemble the Bastille Day celebration in France that Trump had leaned on for inspiration. A week later Mick Mulvaney, the White House budget director, estimated that the sort of public display that Trump had called for could cost between US$10 million (S$13 million) and $30 million. "But the generals would love to do it, I can tell you, and so would I", Trump told Fox News last month.
