Google Maps is turning into 'Mario Kart' today to celebrate Mario Day

This Mario Day, if you manage to take a break from touring Google Maps with Mario, you'll find that Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp is also in on the festivities with a Mario crossover event that is already underway.

- March 10 has been dubbed Mario Day and in honor of the day's new title, Google partnered with Nintendo to turn Google Maps into a video game.

To use Mario to navigate around Google Maps, first, you must make sure you're on the latest version by updating the app in the Google Play Store. This year Google has gotten in on the fun with a neat addition to the Google Maps app.

Women march on International Women's Day
Women protesters in Barcelona attempted to cut off traffic on some of the city's major thoroughfares which led to minor incidents. Spain is a leading country in the fight for women's rights and against gender violence, even though much remains to be done.

Well, this isn't the first time Google has surprised us by customizing the appearance of Google Maps. Start Navigation (the step by step driving directions) available within the Maps and you will view the plumber driving his little kart instead of the traditional blue arrow.

The news was officially shared by Google through their Google Maps official Twitter handle and you would be able to update the Google Maps app by now. You can see have Mario drive around while following the route. Back in 2014 (long before Pokemon Go launched on mobile devices), Google unleashed dozens of wild Pokemon in Google Maps, giving users a chance to walk around their cities and fill up their Pokedex.

The feature only lasts for a week, so enjoy Mario Time while you can. To celebrate this special day, from March 10th to March 25th, you can purchase Super Mario Run for a special price of up to 50%* off! Mario will then replace the navigation arrow and join users on their commutes for the next seven days.
