Former Pharmaceutical CEO Martin Shkreli Gets 7 Years In Prison

A federal judge on Friday sentenced Martin Shkreli, the notorious former hedge fund manager, to seven years in prison for defrauding his investors of $10 million.

"This is an interesting man with great potential", said Brafman, who told the judge he had his "begging voice" on.

"I look back and I'm embarrassed and ashamed", said Shkreli, who was found guilty by a jury in August of unrelated securities fraud charges brought against him in December 2015.

Shkreli wasn't being tried for price-gouging sick people on drugs or being a generally irredeemable garbage person, he was being tried for fraud and - forgive us this moment of clarity - we've seen waaaay worse in that department.

Even 15 years in prison wouldn't be enough for Martin Shkreli... Shkreli will get credit for six months he has already spent in jail awaiting his sentencing.

Kasulis said Brafman was trying to portray Shkreli as "a child". Fittingly, he will likely lose the album after being order to forfeit $7.36 million in assets.

By analysing the agent used in this case it may be possible to trace the country - or even the lab - in which it was made. On Thursday, the Home Secretary revealed a police officer who rushed to help is awake and talking in hospital.

He reportedly plans to appeal the sentencing decision. In addition to time behind bars, Shkreli was ordered to forfeit almost $7.4 million to the federal government, as well as personal assets, including a Picasso painting and his one-of-a-kind Wu-Tang Clan album, which he purchased for $2 million at a 2015 auction.

Not long after the Daraprim mess, Shkreli was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and charged with securities fraud for his mismanagement of two hedge funds, which were apparently a big ol' Ponzi scheme. He appeared in the chamber, but responded to questions by smirking, twirling a pencil and yawning. Shkreli was sobbing when he told the judge that he's "not the same person [he] once was".

Shkreli gained worldwide notoriety in 2015 when he jacked up the price of Daraprim, a decades-old drug that is used to treat a life-threatening parasitic infection. And it wasn't a great sign for Shkreli when his own lawyer said in court that there were times he wanted to punch Shkreli directly in the face.

"This case is not about pharmaceutical pricing or Mr Shkreli's controversial statements or actions, nor his scientific aptitude, " she said. He also offered a $5,000 reward for someone who could get a lock of Hillary Clinton's hair while she was on a book tour. Another letter was from a man who said he met Shkreli while driving a cab and expressed his appreciation at how he ended up giving him an internship at one of his drug companies.

But she did say his conduct after the verdict made her doubt the sincerity of his remorse. "Thank you very much, your honor", Shkreli responded before being led out of the courtroom.
