Boko Haram frees 100 kidnapped Nigerian schoolgirls

"They required assurances that the government security forces would keep to this".

The schoolgirls kidnapped by the Boko Haram jihadist group in Dapchi, northeastern Nigeria, on February 19 and released this week were reunited with their families on Sunday, an AFP journalist saw.

Meanwhile, the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Lawal Daura, had said that nearly all the freed Dapchi schoolgirls had one skin infection or the other for norlt bathing for one month.

While numerous families rejoiced in the return of their daughters, one Christian family is still left worrying about the fate of their beloved 15-year-old daughter. For years he has said Boko Haram is defeated.

He expressed delight over her stance but prayed for her return. "But God is in control". "That is why they released us", she said. If you can remember the last interview I had with Channels Television, I said in two weeks, two months or less we are going to get the girls released and this has happened.

The girl's father, Nathan Sharibu, confirmed to The Associated Press he heard she was on her way to Dapchi.

The BBOG spokesperson, Sesugh Akume, said, "Some of the insurgents released later went back to join their colleagues".

Although he is upset that his daughter has not been freed, he is proud that she has refused to renounce her faith. That is why the insurgents were able to drop the girls.

Meanwhile, it was a different mood at the resident of Nathan Sheribu as he still awaits the return of his daughter Leah who is still held in captive by the insurgents.

The minister said the insurgents were compelled to release the students and others because their capture offended long running negotiations with them for a settlement of the crisis.

"We got the news that she was on her way", he said.

Also speaking, Minister of Defence, Mr. Mansur Dan-Ali, who predicted that the girls would be released a week ago, said: "Basically, I want to speak on the impression that people had that we can not get the girls released.

This strategy paid off as the girls are being released without any incident", Buhari said to reporters at the presidential villa in Abuja.

"Pastor Professor Yemi Oshibanjo should not keep quiet as a Christian at this time; we encourage all Churches to please mobilize prayer for the release of Leah Sharibu to rejoin with the parents unharmed. President Buhari should tell the whole world", CAN said.

The release of the Dapchi schoolgirls comes almost four years after Boko Haram abducted 276 schoolgirls from a school in the town of Chibok. More than 100 are still missing. According to ICC, the vast majority of the Chibok girls were Christians.

While some of the Chibok girls have been freed in exchange for ransom and the release of top Boko Haram commanders, a total of 112 remain in captivity.
