David Letterman's Netflix Series Secures Barack Obama as First Guest

In fact, the only thing that might overshadow the TV icon on his new Netflix series, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman, is his first guest: former President Barack Obama.

Netflix has been spending heavily to produce and acquire content as it races to dominate streaming television and beat competition from traditional media and other streaming players such as Hulu and Amazon.com Inc.'s Prime Video. The hourlong series will premiere next Friday, and five subsequent episodes will bow monthly through the first half of the year. It will also be Letterman's first televised interview after retiring as host of the CBS' The Late Show in 2015.

David Letterman's anticipated return date to television is set.

The interview will take place inside both a studio and out in the world, and feature in-the-field segments of Letterman on outings related to his guests. The former late-night star may be coming out of retirement, but he will be keeping his epic retirement beard. Will Fey's episode bring Dave back to 30 Rock and NBC?

This is the first time Letterman has led a series in over two years.
