Brian Gutekunst is Packers' New General Manager

Brian Gutekunst is Packers' New General Manager

Multiple NFL sources including NFL Networks Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero are reporting that the Green Bay Packers have selected Brian Gutekunst as the teams next General Manager, replacing Ted Thompson who is being moved to a new role in the club's front office. A 5-year deal for Gutekunst.

The #Packers are swinging big on their GM search. He spent his first 13 seasons as a college scout.

By hiring Gutekunst, Murphy passed over Russ Ball, the team's Vice-President of Football Operations/Player Finance and Eliot Wolf, the son of former GM Ron Wolf, now the team's Director of Football Operations.

Gutekunst reportedly had an opportunity to become the San Francisco 49ers general manager previous year, but the Packers gave him a raise and a new title. Before that, he was Green Bay's director of college scouting from 2012 to 2015.

Raiders make it official: Jon Gruden is their new coach
Owner Mark Davis hopes that will all change now that he has finally lured Gruden back for a second stint as the team's coach. Gruden responded: "Well, thank you". "Nothing's official yet, but these Chiefs fans have been on my case since we got here".

They swung for the fences first by requesting to interview Seattle Seahawks GM John Schneider, but they were turned down.

Gutekunst previously served as Green Bay's director of player personnel.

Schneider signed a new contract in the summer of 2016 that takes him through the 2021 season. A promotion from within isn't surprising for Green Bay, but the team may have been interested in an outside hire before making the promotion.
