Qualcomm's New Lawsuit Seeks Ban on Apple's iPhone X

The legal bickering between Apple and Qualcomm shows no signs of backing down. Now, according to court documents, Apple has amended its response to include suing Qualcomm for using patents giving juice wherever and at whatever level is needed, plus starting and shutting down quickly. More specifically, the patent covers how a processor can minimize power draw by turning off certain functions when not in use, along with enhanced sleep/wake functionality in mobile chips. The iPhone maker states that it filed for battery life patents long before Qualcomm went through with its own battery life patents, and further states that Qualcomm's infringement claims appear "to be a blatant effort to take credit for the innovation of others".

The latter filed its patent breach case at the same time it submitted a complaint with the International Trade Commission asking to stop the import of Apple iPhones that have Intel Corp chips due to the alleged patent violations. Google and Samsung are not mentioned in Apple's counterclaims. In a related suit, Qualcomm sued the contract manufacturers that make Apple's phones, but Apple joined in to defend them.
