First pilots, now cabin crew - Ryanair to recognise other unions

However IMPACT, the union involved, has already warned that the strike is suspended rather than cancelled.

Ryanair held a first meeting with the Irish pilot union Impact on Tuesday and was meeting German equivalent VC on Wednesday.

Ryanair, meanwhile, said last week they had chose to invite unions in Ireland, UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and Portugal to talks in a bid to avert the planned industrial action.

Following the announcement of the suspension of the strike action, Ryanair's chief operations officer Peter Bellew took to Twitter to confirm strikes by pilots in Dublin and Portugal were now cancelled.

It wants the company to clarify the detail of it's agreement on Friday - to recognise unions for the first time in the company's history.

He said the union put forward a set of proposals to set up a framework to fast track the negotiations.

Pinpoint Weather: Despite the warm-up, white Christmas still possible
Christmas Day is looking to be wet, but dreams of the first white Christmas in NY since 2009 hinge of when cold air arrives. Low pressure will race east from the Ozarks to SC and spread rain from the Interstate 64 corridor to the Gulf Coast.

Mr Wilson said Ryanair was interested in the outcome and not the rituals but that they would get there.

"The union reiterated its position that its mandate for strike action can be implemented, after the required notice is given, in the absence of a timely agreement".

Ryanair has also offered to meet the Portuguese union on Thursday and the British and Italian organisations in early January.

Chief executive Michael O'Leary said last Friday: "Christmas flights are very important to our customers and we wish to remove any worry or concern that they may be disrupted by pilot industrial action next week".

The Irish airline, Europe's largest by passenger numbers, announced last week that it would recognise pilots' unions in a bid to head off strikes planned in the run-up to Christmas.

Market analysts anticipate the increase in Ryanair's cost base could affect the airline's ability to meet its targets for 2018 and 2019, due to higher labour and fuel costs.
