Federal Bureau of Investigation makes arrest in disappearance of 3-year-old NC girl

Earl Kimrey, 32, was taken into custody Friday, investigators say.

A missing 3-year-old North Carolina girl is believed to be dead and her mother's boyfriend has been arrested in connection to the disappearance that prompted an Amber Alert earlier this week.

A homicide investigation is underway following the disappearance of a three-year-old girl in North Carolina, according to the FBI Saturday afternoon.

Earl Kimrey, 32, was arrested Friday and charged with concealing of death, obstruction of justice, second-degree burglary, felony larceny and possession of stolen property, police said. He was being held in the Onslow County Detention Center under a $1 million bond, a news release stated.

Mariah's family has been cooperating with investigators and additional charges could be filed in the case, authorities said.

In a statement issued just before 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, the sheriff's office said that information gathered in the search for Mariah led authorities to believe she is dead, although no body has been recovered.

Woods was reported missing Monday.

Miller said that the outpouring of support from the community has been "overwhelming" and asked that residents continue to support each other "as we all grieve the life of this little girl and still focus on finding her". "All with one mission: to help us find Mariah".

Miller said authorities will look at anything found and decide whether they need to look in another area. The FBI later said the woman in the picture did not have any connection to their ongoing investigation to find Mariah.

Onslow County Sheriff Hans Miller talked during a news conference about Mariah Woods, who vanished November 27 from her home on High Hill Road. ABC News reports that her mother reached out to the public in an emotion-filled plea Monday. Authorities are searching for her body.

Mariah was last seen Sunday night when her mother, Kristy Woods, put the girl to bed, according to the sheriff's office. "Someone just walked right up in there, grabbed the 3-year-old out of the bed and she didn't cry, she didn't scream?"
