Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton remain most admired in the US

Gallup's December poll found 17% of respondents named Obama the man they admired most, a dip from 22% of respondents saying the same a year ago.

Former US president Barack Obama is the most admired man in the United States and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton the most admired woman, according to a poll published today.

Clinton came in at 9 percent, which was her lowest since 2002 when she received 7 percent.

Trump came in second to Barack Obama, with the former president notching 17 percent of the vote to Trump's 14 percent.

Barack Obama claimed the honor for the 10th year in a row while Clinton retained her title for the 16th year in a row.

A Gallup spokeswoman said in a statement that it has historically based the rank-order list on the number of total responses for each choice, regardless of statistical significance or how close the picks are. "The incumbent president is the usual victor, since he is arguably the most prominent figure in the country - but when the president is unpopular, other well-known and well-liked men have been able to finish first".

Still, it's the 22nd time Clinton's been rated the most admired woman - more than any other man or woman ever on the list. Of the 71 times Gallup has posed the most admired man question, the incumbent has won 58. Pope Francis came in third with 3 percent and Rev. Billy Graham, Sen. The next winningest woman is Eleanor Roosevelt, at 13 times.

Yet another historic achievement for President Donald Trump. It is her 30th time making the top ten list.

The poll was conducted from 4-11 December among 1,049 American adults from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, and has a margin of sampling error of ±4 percentage points at the 95% confidence level.
