United Kingdom parliament to get vote on final Brexit deal

However, Davis admitted that if there is no deal agreed before the March 2019 exit date then there will be no withdrawal agreement bill and therefore nothing for MPs to vote.

The move comes ahead of a pivotal week for the Government's other key Brexit legislation, with more than 400 amendments tabled to the EU Withdrawal Bill - planned to convert EU law into United Kingdom law before March 2019 - ahead of its return to the House of Commons on Tuesday.

The Government has bolstered its commitment for Parliament to have the final say on a Brexit deal - but immediately faced a backlash for not guarding against the United Kingdom leaving the European Union without an agreement.

The EU Withdrawal Bill, which formally converts all European Union (EU) legislation into United Kingdom law to ensure complete clarity on Brexit day "March 29, 2019", returns for a line by line scrutiny by lawmakers in what is referred to as the committee stage of the bill.

The British Parliament is to be given a take-it-or leave-it vote on the final Brexit deal before the United Kingdom leaves the European Union (EU).

Labour welcomed a "climbdown" but some MPs warned of a "sham" if ministers could not be asked to renegotiate.

"If we don't have a withdrawal agreement we can't have a withdrawal agreement bill, full stop".

Davis claims that by announcing the bill, the government was "providing clarity and certainty - both in the negotiations and at home - about the final agreement being put into United Kingdom law".

The move was seen as an attempted concession to Tory rebels ahead of votes this week on the separate EU (Withdrawal) Bill, also known as the repeal bill, with the Government facing potential defeat on plans to guarantee MPs a "meaningful vote" on the deal.

"Its return follows weeks of damaging delay".

The toughest votes are expected in the coming weeks, as Grieve and other Conservative MPs seek to reduce the powers the bill gives to ministers to change European Union laws as they are transferred across.

A further seven days of debates have been scheduled in the run-up to Parliament's Christmas break next month. "I call on all parties to back this SNP reset amendment to ensure we have a safety net should negotiations fail", he said.

Pro-EU MPs within the Conservative party are confident of a rebellion by up to 10 MPs, which could mean a major defeat for the government.
